Background info:
I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes about 2 years ago. Since my diagnosis I've taken off about 65 pounds. I am an avid runner now. I have already completed a half marathon and I'm in the process of training to run my first full marathon this fall. My A1c is down to about 4.9 and I'm using diet and exercise to manage my diabetes. My cholesterol bounces around from normal to slightly above normal.
Here is my question. My doctor has put me on statins to control my cholesterol. He told me that if I did not have diabetes I would not need to be on the medication but my current cholesterol levels are to high for a diabetic. I'm fine with taking the statins but I have been looking at the possible side effects and have some concerns. In particular the muscle pains that can happen. I'm worried that this will interfere with my running if I do indeed get these side effects. If I get muscle pains and am not able to run, can I stop taking the statins given my current stats? I eat a very healthy diet. I have not set foot in a fast food restaurant since my diagnosis.
