Please help... need to know

Hi,

I have been to the doctor time and time again but they can not seem to find out what is wrong with me. Maybe you can help me, I hope. I am very concerned because my hair is falling out at an alarming rate. I am losing so much hair every day and the docs tell me it is stress or something. I don't have any stress in my life and even if it were, it wouldn't fall out like this. I used to have very thick hair, now it is so thin. This has been happening for few years now. I also have hair growing on my neck and chin and around my face (just like a man).. and I have to shave it every day. I think I have a hormonal problem but every time they run tests, they always come back saying everything is fine. I also have days I feel really sick in the morning, I get really dizzy at any kind of motion and nauseous. Not sure if that is related or not, since I have felt this way off and on since I was little. My dad has hypogycemia and my grandpa has diabetes. I have also had high blood pressure off and on for a couple years, but I was on medication that brought it down to normal and has been ever since. Please help me, I am open to any questions you may have of me. I just want to get to the bottom of this once and for all, I want to know what is wrong and why my hair keeps falling out. I have tried practically everything and nothing works..open for any suggestions. Thanks!

Forum: Signs and Symptoms

Pregnant but nothing there?

I am supposed to be just shy of 5 weeks pregnant.

I've been bleeding, very dark red with some tissue but the OB says my cervix is still closed. The ultrasound showed absolutely nothing in my uterus, except the lining for the egg to implant into. She said I could just be very early and the egg hasn't gotten to the uterus yet or it could be ectopic. The prior just makes no sense to me because I got my positive test a week and a half ago so there should be SOMETHING there. I had blood drawn today and will go for another draw on Friday to compare HCG levels and will get an answer on that Monday or Tuesday of next week. Then I go back to the OB on the 16th to see if something has developed and to check again for an ectopic, which apparently can't be seen right away anyway.

So I'm very confused. I'm about 99.9% positive that I will not be having a baby in October/November as thought but I don't know why there wouldn't be anything in my uterus right now. Also, if my cervix is closed and the bleeding isn't coming from my uterus and the expulsion of a baby from it, then where is it coming from?
Forum: Pregnancy

need advice

I'm not sure if I should be worried or not. Last monday my doctor drew blood to run some tests for unexplained bruisinng. She told me that day that my protime was really high and said the rest of the results should be in by wednesday. By friday I still hadn't heard anything so I called. Her nurse spoke to me and said that my rheumatoid factor was "through the roof" and that because of the results of those blood tests the doctor had ordered more tests and the results wouldn't be in until monday (3/1/2010). My symptoms are as follows: unexplained bruising, severe nausea, pain on left side under ribs, bone pain, headaches, lightheadedness, passing out, weakness, tiredness, tachycardia, no appitite, overall feeling of crummy. Kinda feels like the flu but I haven't been around anyone that's sick. I'm kind of scared because my grandpa presented with these symptoms and he was diagnosed with acute leukemia after several tests (they didn't catch it at first because his white count wasn't really high, later they said the leukemia had stayed in his bone marrow and that was why they didn't catch it sooner). He later passed away. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me. Thank you.

Forum: Signs and Symptoms

Currently I am very unhappy with the results. My breast are placed to close to my arm pits which does not leave me with much cleavage. One nipple is placed almost two inches higher then the other one. One breast hangs and inch lower then the other. I have jagged incision scars all over the breast, plus thick scar tissue. I feel though the surgeon who performed the surgery needs to fix my breasts. What would need to be done to make them look "normal" and can putting an implant in the same size I am now make a wonderful difference instead of going through another breast reduction surgery???

Forum: Breasts

Something frightening happened yesterday

Hello, I recently had a very scary event happen to me yesterday. I was prescribed Xanax 2mg twice a day as needed for panic attacks. I also have acute chronic back pain since having a spinal fusion T4-T9 to correct scoliosis. I do not take any pain meds at the moment but sometimes need to rely on my Xanax when the pain gets unbearable. Lately, 2mg of Xanax doesn't seem to work as well as it used to (tolerance), so I took 2 because of severe back pain. The next thing I remember is waking up this morning after having a dream I saw the movie Avatar. Well, to my surprise, the 3-D glasses for that movie were in my purse. I checked my bottle of Xanax and there was only 3 left out of 46 2mg pills. I had taken nearly the whole bottle and have no recollection of doing so. I am 5'6" and weigh 136 lbs. Luckily my mom took me to the movie, but I have no recollection of yesterday at all. So my question is, how am I still alive! Could I have liver or kidney damage?

Forum: Anxiety

HELP!!!!!! I'm a little confused, Could i be pregnant????

Hello everyone,

I'm a 23 yr old healthy female and a mother of one. I have been pregnant twice, one live birth almost 4 yrs ago and an abortion last April. I could say that i know my body and i know when something doesnt feel right. Well my cycle usually comes on around the 20th of the month. It was November 23rd, the next was December 20th, and i was expecting my next period on Jan. 20th or around that time. Now on Jan.13th a week before my period was to start, i started bleeding. It wasnt heavy but it looked like my period had just begun. The 13th was on a wednesday so the next day on the 14th there was no blood at all, on the 15th there was no blood at all, on the 16th i didnt see any blood at all. Now on the 16th which was on that Sat. since i didn't see any blood for 3 days, i had unprotected sex. Now mind you i didn't see any blood for 3 days but after i had sex, my partner had blood on him. I didn't understand that because i didnt see any blood and even the next day (the 17th) and the day after i didn't see anything. Now on the 19th which was on a Tuesday, my regular schedule cycle began and lasted until Friday. Now i know all about ovulation and that 3-4 day window during the month that you can get pregnant. When i used the ovulation calendar online, the 16th when i had sex didn't fall within that window. I wasnt sure to use the 13th or the 19th as the first day of my period so i just used both and the dates still didn't match. Now im wondering if my ovulation time could be a little jacked up or something because of that one day of bleeding so i really cant accurately chart my ovulation dates. Last year when i was pregnant, i kinda felt that i was preggo before i took a pregnancy test. I get these lower abdomen cramps as if my cycle is about to begin. I started getting those same cramps/little pains and some fatigue on Feb. 6th and they come and go. I felts these same symptoms when i was pregnant before but i dont see how i can be pregnant now because the ovulation dates and when i had sex dont match AND i got my scheduled period 3 days after the unprotected sex. This is really driving me crazy not knowing and i even took a pregnancy and of course it said negative because i took it too early. Now my cyle is due on the 20th and i really cant wait to see if it comes around so that i can test again if it doesn't. I really feel that i am pregnant but im thinking it could all be in my head and im just freaking myslef out. I've been reading alot these last couple of days about this and some sites say you could get pregnant any time of the month but its slim, you can only get pregnant around the ovulation dates, or you really can never accurately chart your ovulation sometimes. Could pregnancy be possible with me? Thank you you all for your responses in advance!
Forum: Pregnancy

Costochondritis

I have been diagnosed with Costochondritis and I get very bad chest pains, with pains in my upper ribs and up to my jaw. Everything came out normal EKG, bloodwork, chest x-ray, etc. I am on pain medications that are not working. I will be getting a cortisone injection in my chest eventually. I have Costochondritis for almost 2 months now.

I also had 5 episodes of trouble breathing and pressure in my chest. In fact, I woke up at 2 in the morning on Thursday and I had trouble breathing. My question is even though that it is Costochondritis, how do I know the episodes I am having are not from a heart attack?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Cassie

Forum: Chest Pain

Miscarriage?

I believe my wife has had a miscarriage. We are not positive but this is what makes me believe it was;
1. Heavy bleeding. (usually during her period it is light)
2. Abdominal Cramps. (never gets those during her period)
3. When she used the bathroom she said she had a bloodclot come out that was maybe 5-7 inches long and maybe 2 inches wide. She couldn't fully investigate however because it was a toilet that flushes automatically. Also, after said discharge the cramps and bleeding stopped.
She later took a pregnancy test and it came out negative. Could this have been a miscarriage?

Forum: Pregnancy

Continually dropping eGFR, no mention from docs

Hi, I am a 39 y.o. woman with Hashimoto's Hypothyroiditis who has been taking thyroid replacement since 2000 (Synthroid since 2008, Armour prior to that). I have been working with my OBGYN & endocrinologist to figure out why I am still plagued with hypo symptoms & continue to gain weight, when there is no logical reason for it.

Among the discoveries/diagnoses made by these two drs in the past 6 mths are: ovarian cysts & uterine fibroids w/enlarged uterus (treated w/3 mths progesterone), PCOS & insulin resistance (insulin & HOMA-IR were WAY above normal; just started Metformin therapy). These things may have bearing on my question or not, but I needed to give background.

On my bloodwork from my OBGYN in June, my eGFR was slightly low (58) with a slightly elevated creatinine (1.06 with a "normal" range listed as 0.57-1.00). I noticed my dr. made a notation to himself to reference more info on the Kidney Assn. website, but no mention was made to me, at my followup appt. I figured it must not have been a big enough concern to mention.

On 01-06-10, I had lab work done with my endocrinologist. At this visit, my eGFR was even lower (53.2) and my creatinine was 1.2. Again, no mention was made of this, although, in his defense, my endo was focusing almost exclusively on my insulin & thyroid levels, at this visit, which were very much out of range.

I am trying to figure out if I have cause for concern here, as the research I have done suggests that any eGFR below 59, for a woman, is suggestive of possible kidney damage, and an even bigger concern is when subsequent labs continue to show a drop, as they have in my case. If there is reason for concern, I can't figure out why neither doctor mentioned it to me.

I am obese (240 lbs, 5'5"), so I know that can affect the numbers, but I also have been plagued, over the yrs, with various auto-immune issues (ITP, Hashimoto's), and I know that that can also cause damage to kidneys. With my family's history of type 2 diabetes, that adds yet another concern.

Can a doctor on this forum explain these findings to me & tell me if I should follow up with these concerns with my doctors (I will return to endo on 03-04). Thank you.

Angela

Forum: Kidney Problems
